Customizing the Import A File and Export A File Commands

Import a File

Qualedi expects to find outgoing data coming from the host application in a file called QIMPORT or FETCH.  The file name can be specified in User Preferences under the Setup menu.  The file is a standard ASCII flat file that must reside in the Qualedi subdirectory (QUALEDI; on older systems this is q32W) for the software to process it.  There are two approaches to creating the QIMPORT file.

The file can be passed to the PC directly, using any PC/Host interface you normally work with.  In this case, you only need to have Qualedi translate (Generate) the document(s).  The data must be appended to the file so as not to overwrite any existing data.

The other approach is to let Qualedi control moving the QIMPORT file from the host to the Qualedi directory.  By executing the Import a File command from the Main menu, Qualedi looks for and then executes the QIMPORT.BAT or QFETCH.BAT file (depending on the naming convention in User Preference) from the Qualedi subdirectory.  You must create this file, incorporating the commands or procedures necessary to move the outgoing data from the host application to the QIMPORT file.

Qualedi will detect that there is data to be processed if the QIMPORT file contains more than zero bytes.  It will display a number "1" next to the Generate command on the Main menu.

Export a File or Export a Test File

Incoming documents are separated into two export files based on whether your trading partner sends a T for "Test" or P for "Production" in the ISA15 field.  This way, test data and live data are separated before being moved to the host application.  Live data is written to a file named QEXPORT or TRANSFER.  Test data is written to a file named QEXPORT.TST or TRANSFER.TST.  The file name can be specified in User Preference under the Setup menu.

There are two ways to move incoming data from Qualedi to your host application.

The file can be moved directly to the host via any PC/host interface or emulation program.  Once the QEXPORT file has been successfully moved, it must be deleted from the Qualedi subdirectory.  Then the Export a File command from the Main menu must be executed so that Qualedi can update its document database.

The other approach is to let Qualedi control moving the QEXPORT file from the host to the PC.   By executing the Export a File command from the Main menu, Qualedi looks for and executes the QEXPORT.BAT or QTRANSFR.BAT file (depending on the naming convention in User Preference) from the Qualedi subdirectory.  For the Export a Test File command, Qualedi looks for and executes the QEXPTST.BAT or QTRANTST.BAT file (depending on the naming convention in User Preference) from the Qualedi subdirectory.  You must create these files, incorporating the commands or procedures necessary, to move the incoming data from Qualedi to the host application.

Qualedi always appends records to the QEXPORT or QEXPORT.TST files, regardless of whether they contain data or not.  It is required that the files be deleted after a successful Export so that incoming data is not resent to the host application.  It is very important to execute the Export command so that the database can record that incoming documents are completed.
